Hasty decision

This refers to the report, “Nepal gets federal, secular Constitution” (September 21). It is true that Nepal’s new statute has ignored the needs and demands of the Madhesis, the Tharus and other ethnic minorities. It is not an inclusive document. The re-organisation of the districts have been done arbitrarily.

It is surprising that some Muslims have demanded a ‘Hindu nation’ identity for Nepal for they felt that would be safer than a secular identity. Also, implementation is being carried out in a haste without taking the confidence of all the stakeholders. So, holding talks with all stakeholders, especially the people of southern Nepal and the hill tribals, and winning their confidence, is a must.
