India's friend

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “The ‘all’s possible’ leader” (March 24). Singapore’s founding father lee Kuan Yew was a great friend of India. He wanted India to play a larger role in Asia, especially as a counterweight to China. He said India was a nation of “unfulfilled greatness”. He spoke highly of India’s private sector and admired industry captains like Ratan Tata and NR Narayana Murthy. In fact, he reportedly had once said that, if only India’s Ministers and bureaucrats were as hardworking as Mr Murthy, the country would be one of the fastest growing nations of the world. It is befitting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is attending lee Kuan Yew’s funeral in Singapore.
