Sir — This refers to the report, “lS passes diluted land Bill” (March 11). The incorporation of nine crucial changes in the land acquisition Bill is the best that the Modi Government could have done in order to address the grievances of the farmer community on the issue. Now the Bill stands best-suited for the interests of both the Government and the farming community.
It is hoped that these changes will help the Government to allay the fears of the farmers. But the Centre will have to face the real test of passing the Bill in the Rajya Sabha where it does not have the numerical strength.
Also, in light of the new changes, the Opposition’s demand to send the Bill to a Select Committee does not hold water. It must play a constructive role in democracy.
