Golden opportunity

Sir — The voters of Delhi have rejected parties which claim to do big but do little for the common people. Political parties like the CPI(M), the Congress and the BJP, that cherish a particular vote-bank on the grounds of equality, liberalism and secularism or Hindutva, instead of fulfilling the people’s ambition of transparent and good governance, fundamental rights, safety and women’s dignity safety, become irrelevant to the Indian voters.

The common people, who are the real builders of democracy, never tolerate their rulers’ arrogance, vanity of power and a dictatorial mentality. People now are no longer puppets of political parties; they have meaningful choices at hand. For Mr Arvind Kejriwal, the huge mandate is a marvellous opportunity to demonstrate that he and his party can govern well. At the same time, it is a challenge to live up to the expectations of the people. The AAP chief has admitted that the massive win is “scary”. One understands his sentiments. But it must not scare him away from the task of giving an effective administration to the people of the State.
