Dirty politics

Published on:

Sir — Social activist Anna Hazare is reportedly miffed with Ms Kiran Bedi’s decision to join the BJP. Mr Hazare, reportedly neither responded to her phone calls nor returned them. Ms Bedi wanted the ‘blessings’ of Mr Hazare for her new political venture but discovered he is made of a different mettle.

During the Jan lokpal Bill agitation in 2011, Mr Hazare had declared that he would stay clear of politics. And, he has kept his word. Though Mr Hazare himself could have created quite a stir in politics, as gauged by the tremendous goodwill he earned during the agitation, the veteran appeared reluctant to step into political ‘dirt’.

It is but natural that the once bitten twice shy Mr Hazare avoided a dialogue with the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate for Delhi. Now, the Congress is said to be keen to cash in on Mr Hazare’s proposed agitation against the NDA Government’s ordinance route to bring in legislations. Mr Hazare should be wary of political parties using him to further their hidden agenda.
