Double standards

Sir — This refers to Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s vow to rid Pakistan of terror and the editorial, “lesson for Pakistan” (December 18). No words are enough to condemn the terrorist attack on children in an Army school in Peshawar. The incident was the result of grooming and patronising of terrorists by Pakistan’s civil and military establishments and their double standards on terror. The Pakistani Government doesn’t recognise 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed, as a terrorist. And so, he moves about freely in Pakistan.

On a day when Mr Sharif was saying that “this entire region, not only Pakistan and Afghanistan, should be cleaned of terrorism”, and the people, school children and the Parliament of India were mourning the massacre, Saeed said in lahore that India was behind the massacre. He threatened to send terrorists to create havoc on Indian soil. With this ironical situation, Mr Sharif’s vow of cleaning the region of terrorists is mere hypocrisy.
