Sir — Speaking as part of his third radio address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has rightly observed that drug money funds terrorism. But our political class is responsible for the state of affairs. Youths take to drugs and alcohol out of frustration. Unemployment, inequality of opportunity, regional imbalances, concentration of wealth and resources in certain pockets of our society etc drive them to frustration, which ultimately leads to vices. The remedy lies within and not without.
Our youth must be engaged in activities including governance and law-making. More employment avenues should be created. Our education system is not competent to provide the youth a profitable employment avenue. It should be re-directed more towards engaging them in self-employment. We need to use our demographic dividend effectively. Also, regional imbalances should end. Then our young will not adopt wrong means such as drugs and drinks. A strong political will is needed.
