Sir — Controversy over Union Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj’s suggestion that the Bhagvad Gita be declared the national scripture is totally unwarranted. The Gita is an identity of our great civilisation. Not only Indians but many great personalities over the world have been influenced and inspired by this holy book. Albert Einstein expressed his faith in the book by saying, “I have made the Bhagvad Gita as the main source of my inspiration and guide for the purpose of the scientific investigations and formation of my theories”. The Bhagvad Gita was the guiding force in the life of Mahatma Gandhi.
