Mr P Chidambaram’s statement against the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act is the height of political hypocrisy and opportunism. Till the other day, he was the country’s Minister for Home Affairs. Similar opportunism has also been seen among BJP leaders regarding papers relating to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the black money issue. The land acquisition Bill was supported by the BJP when it was in the opposition, and it became an Act. But now the party’s Government wants to amend the Act.
