Communal politics

Published on:

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “larger communal spread” (November 25) regarding the rise of communal politics under Mr Asaduddin Owaisi, the chief of Hyderabad-based All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen. Mr Owaisi plays blatantly parochial politics and makes no pretence about his divisive and fanatically assertive beliefs, which are detrimental to social and communal harmony.

Mr Owaisi’s brother, an MlA now from Telangana, is even more radical. He publicly derides the majority community, for which he is facing judicial scrutiny. Mr Owaisi has never disowned his brother’s offensive and aggressive calumny. He has  also defended his party’s attack on author Taslima Nasreen. Mr Owaisi’s plans to widen the MIM’s political presence cannot, and should not, be ignored.
