Misplaced criticism

Published on:

Sir — It has become fashionable to blame Jawaharlal Nehru for all that is wrong in the country. Nehru did what was good for India. India’s foreign policy during his tenure as Prime Minister was influenced by Cold War rivalry. India was young, and as the first Prime Minister, Nehru had to deal with many post-independence problems.

Our problems from the very beginning have been poverty, casteism, anti-secular forces and anti-India activities from across the border. Nehru inherited many problems that the British had created. The best way to move forward is to stop blaming the past leaders and learn from mistakes.
