Sir — There has been a recent spurt in violence in different parts of India against out brothers and sisters from the North-East, who have spread to different parts of India to study and for employment prospects. They are compelled to migrate because of limited education and job opportunities in their home States.
India is a functional democratic country, and such hate-crimes should not be tolerated at all. Our society must not be intolerant, and we must co-exist harmoniously. The attacks on North-East citizens are a blot to a civil society such as ours. It is the responsibility of the arms of the Government such as the police and the prosecution, as well as that of the judiciary, to ensure that perpetrators are dealt with in the most stringent manner.
