Wrong decision

Sir — The sacking of Congress MP and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor from the post of party spokesperson, allegedly for praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is unfortunate.

It is shocking that just because some people show displeasure over a particular issue with a person of such high calibre as Mr Tharoor, he gets sacked. If this is what the Congress leadership stands for today, then it must be ready for even worse and tougher times than what it had seen when corruption scams broke during the United Progressive Alliance rule and the party lost power at the Centre.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi must take serious note of happenings inside the party, and find ways to restore its credibility and make mature and pragmatic decisions. By sacking a straightforward person like Mr Tharoor, the Congress has damaged its own credibility.
