Factually wrong

Sir — This refers to the article, “New heights in India-Japan strategic ties” (September 6) by G Balachandran. The article has carried a factual error regarding GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy. The following sentence is not accurate: “The two major US nuclear suppliers in America, viz, Westinghouse and General Electric (GE), are now owned by Japanese corporate entities. Toshiba, which has reportedly acquired an 87 per cent stake in Westinghouse and Hitachi, has controlling interest in GE Hitachi.”

The ownership of GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy is 60 per cent GE and 40 per cent Hitachi. The statements about Japanese ownership and Japanese concurrence do not apply to GE Hitachi.
