Sir — This refers to the article, “State as a dysfunctional unit” (July 2) by Sankar Sen. The writer offers an apt analysis of the state of affairs in Uttar Pradesh. It is now gaining notoriety for utter lawlessness. Conditions became miserable during successive rules of the Congress, the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party, with casteism reining supreme. The Samajwadi Party has been meddling in policing, with 60 per cent of police stations being reportedly headed by members of one caste who have direct access to the ruling first family. If the Samajwadi Party cannot run the State, let there be President’s Rule.
