Sir — This refers to the article, “Swami takes on a sage, devotees confused” (July 1) by Sandhya Jain. Clearly, Dwarka Peeth Swami Swaroopanand’s hate campaign against Shirdi Sai Baba is meant to divide Hindu society before the Maharashtra Assembly election. This politically-inclined Sankaracharya should be made accountable for the provocative speeches he has given on the issue. He has mocked and hurt the core religious belief of Hindu dharma — the worship of Ishta Devatas.
I would go to the extent of saying that the Sankaracharya has no understanding of Hindu beliefs. The Sai puja forms part of the ritual of millions of Hindu devotees of the Sai Baba of Shirdi. The Dwarka Peeth head has no business to interfere in the beliefs of other people. let them offer prayers to those they have faith in.
