Promote Sanskrit

Published on:

Sir — It is heartening that a few lok Sabha members took their oath in Sanskrit. Media reports also indicate about a United States’ agency having launched the Mission-Sanskrit programme so that the world’s ancient language, which is full of hidden treasure of literature and advanced technology, may be effectively utilised as a language of computer and space technology.

Media reports also indicate that Sanskrit has already been introduced as a language in nursery classes in the US. The chant of Vedic hymns is rapidly gaining popularity in the West. The importance of Sanskrit has also been realised in other countries like Germany.

The Centre should set up a separate ministry for development of and research in the Sanskrit language. We must encourage studies in and the use of Sanskrit at a global level, with the aid of organisations such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
