Wrong decision

Sir — The Congress has needlessly thrown away its good electoral tally of 2009. It wouldn’t have found itself in knots today if it had been ruthless and determined about easing out Mr Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister at the advent of UPA2.

The UPA would have then coasted along and scams would not have flourished in a sterner administrative environment. But then the Congress does not have an RSS-like organisation that can initiate course corrections in the party. Its benign dynasty-led leadership, useful in peace time, was not up to the occasion when it came to the crunch of governance. The Congress has lost much of its grit. The sufferers of the Congress’s dereliction today are sitting Ministers who are reluctant to join the hustings.
