Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Nobody is convinced” (February 18). This being an election year, the Congress would have liked to please all, and the aam aadmi in particular. But the UPA’s previous year’s wrongdoing is haunting it and has restrained it from announcing populist, voting-winning schemes.
It has tried to please the corporate sector by slashing excise duties on auto and other consumer items. Given the investors’ mood, it is anybody’s guess if the concessions alone will boost the manufacturing sector at this late stage.
