Sir — The Centre has finally given its approval to create a Telangana State by dividing Andhra Pradesh. It is a political decision to get more votes. Around election time, such vote-bank decisions are not surprising. They are never good for the country as a whole, as dividing States on regional and language considerations is unhealthy and a step backward.
Before Independence, there were many princely States principalities, and with much effort Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel gave us a united India. But now we are creating new divisions within the States and causing disaffection and disharmony among the people. The more the States, the more there will be problems for the country’s progress. we must fall prey to such divisive campaigns.
