Unholy nexus

Sir — Having tasted power in Delhi after striking an unholy combination with the Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party appears emboldened to extend a similar arrangement at the national level.

The likely ranking of parties  after the lok Sabha poll may in all probability be the same, with the BJP emerging as the single largest outfit, the AAP in second position if the present euphoria of gravitation towards it continues, and the Congress relegated to the third position. The regional satraps will be next and they could go in whichever direction the wind blows. The Congress, whose sole aim now is to prevent the BJP’s rise to power at the Centre, will be ready for backseat driving.

Political power is such that it pushes principles to the background. The AAP is no exception. The go-slow attitude to corruption it has employed in Delhi lends credence to this belief. However much the AAP may deny it, the support it has taken from the Congress will influence it in matters of governance. The voters have the responsibility to choose between such fragile combinations or a BJP-led National Democratic Alliance with a track record of inclusive development and governance.
