Sir — This refers to the report, “Court nixes Bengal dole for imams” (September 3). One hails the decision of the Calcutta High Court to strike down as unconstitutional the West Bengal Government’s decision to provide a monthly allowance to imams and muezzins.
The Mamata Banerjee-led Government’s decision was discriminatory and a crass attempt at vote-bank politics. The Government is constitutionally bound not to act in a partisan manner. It should work for the benefit of all without favouring a select section of society.
