Sir — This refers to the editorial, “People suffer, he laughs” (April 9). The statement by Mr Ajit Pawar is insensitive, disappointing and shocking. It reveals an utter disregard of people’s needs, their circumstances and the democratic ethos.
This type of behaviour is sheer betrayal of the trust voters have reposed.
Mr Pawar is occupying a vital post in the State, and such statements reflect poorly not just on him but also on the office he holds. It is unfortunate that the colonial hangover still persists and the idea of a complete ‘welfare state’ is a distant dream. The adage “If you are not the part of the solution, then you are the problem”, will be apt in this case.
