Sir — This refers to the news report, “Protesting ex-militants feel ‘tossed out’ in J&K” (March 27). I think, in pursuance of the State’s rehabilitation scheme, in letting ex-militants to settle in the State along with their Pakistani wives and children, disregarding the fact that the militants were instrumental in causing forced exodus of Pandits from the Valley, we shall soon have a sizeable number of persons with Pakistani origin in the State with permanent state-subject status. Ironically, those who came to Jammu in 1947 from West Pakistan and settled there, are still denied statehood.
In 2008, during the Amarnath agitation, much hue and cry was made when the shrine board was contemplating the construction of a few sheds to enhance facilities for the pilgrims on way to the holy cave. One can only rue New Delhi’s apathy and helplessness.
