The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Sunday directed that a petition challenging the partial demolition of an advocate’s chamber be tagged with a pending public interest litigation (PIL) dealing with the same issue.
The bench of Justice Jaspreet Singh and Justice Subhash Vidyarthi fixed October 26 for the next hearing.
Rajesh Kumar Dixit had approached the court seeking directions to the state government and other authorities to refrain from demolishing his chamber.
A special bench, constituted at the direction of the chief justice, heard the matter.
During the hearing, counsel for the municipal corporation, Shailendra Singh Chauhan, informed the court that a demolition team pulled down a portion of the chamber.
However, the demolition was stopped after a large number of advocates gathered at the spot and protested.
The court was also informed that a similar dispute was pending before it in a PIL.
To avoid conflicting judicial orders, the bench directed that Dixit’s petition be tagged with the pending PIL.
