After hours of global outage, the services of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp resumed on Tuesday. But it took over 6 to 7 hours for Facebook to resolve the issue that the company claimed arose due to a “faulty configuration change”.
Downdetector.com, a website that tracks outages, stated in a post that the Facebook outage has become the largest in its history with over 10.6 million reports from all over the world. The interesting part about the glitch was how it made Facebook servers, including the servers for Facebook.com, vanish from the internet.
The personal wealth of Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg also fell by nearly $7 billion in a few hours, following a selloff that sent the social-media giant’s stock plummeting about five percent on Monday.
Zuckerberg, apologised for the disruption of services. In a statement, he said,”Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger are coming back online now. Sorry for the disruption today — I know how much you rely on our services to stay connected with the people you care about.”
Taking to Twitter early on Tuesday, WhatsApp said: “Apologies to everyone who hasn’t been able to use WhatsApp today. We’re starting to slowly and carefully get WhatsApp working again. Thank you so much for your patience. We will continue to keep you updated when we have more information to share.”
Facebook blamed a faulty configuration change for this outage that prevented the company’s 3.5 billion users from accessing its social media and messaging services.
The social media app, photo and video sharing app, and messing app had crashed on Monday evening.
As per DownDetector, , 40 per cent of users were unable to download the WhatsApp, 30 per cent had trouble in sending messages and 22 per cent had problems with the web version.
According to reports, along with the drop in stocks of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg’s worth has fallen by nearly $19 billion since September 13, 2021, due to a whistleblower and outage.
According to Forbes real-time billionaires list, Zuckerberg is currently in the sixth position, losing to Bill Gates and Larry Ellison, and has a total net worth of $116.8 billion.
