The Gauhati High Court has granted bail to Sandipan Garg, cousin of late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, in the case related to the singer’s death in Singapore in September 2025.
Sandipan Garg, a suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Assam Police, is among the seven people accused in the case. He was charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and has been in judicial custody since October 2025.
His bail plea was heard by the High Court over the past week, with the court reserving its judgment after the hearing concluded on October 13. The court has now granted him bail, according to reports published on October 16.
Earlier, the Gauhati High Court granted bail to co-singer Amritprabha Mahanta on October 9. She was the first accused in the main death case to secure bail.
Zubeen Garg died on September 19, 2025, while swimming in the sea off Singapore, where he had travelled to attend the North East India Festival. The case remains under trial, and the bail orders do not amount to acquittal.
