Zeliang says 'politics at play' behind protests

Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang on Tuesday accused the protesters of being played at the hands of a section politically and said that he will not step down as he still enjoys the support of the 58 legislators in the State legislative Assembly.

“There are political interests at play behind the protest against holding of Urban local Body polls in the state,” said Zeliang while addressing a press conference this afternoon at Kohima on Tuesday.

“When my government had given in to the demands of the protesting groups such as Dimapur-based Joint Coordination Committee and Nagaland Tribes Action Committee to postpone the polls for two months and to declare the polls held in some towns as null and void, I do not understand why the protests are continuing till date,” the Chief Minister said.
