In two separate incidents showing insensitivity of the people, a youth self-immolated in full public view with onlookers capturing the painful death on mobile phones in Jaunpur while a woman ran for help in a busy market before she was hacked to death in broad daylight as no one dared to help her in Banda.
In Jaunpur, 30-year-old auto driver, identified as Feroz, went to his in-laws’ house to bring his wife back on Sunday evening. However, the in-laws refused to send the woman back which dejected the youth , who was already very depressed with his wife’s behaviour.
Reports said that upset Feroz poured petrol on his body and set himself ablaze to commit suicide. Surprisingly, the entire incident was witnessed by local residents many of whom also recorded the incident on their mobile phones but no one came forward to save the victim who burned to death on the spot.
In a separate incident reported from Banda, one Raees Ahmed was upset with his 25-year-old wife Zubeda as she was reportedly having an affair with another youth, also identified as Raees. Raees Ahmed had warned his wife several times and threatened her with dire consequences if she continued to meet her paramour.
On Sunday evening when Zubeda allegedly went to local market to meet Raees, three unknown youths came with sharp-edged weapons following which she ran to save her life. The miscreants also gave her a chase and managed to trap her at about 100 meters distance and later brutally hacked her to death in the busy market.
After ensuring that Zubeda had died, the accused escaped after which the public, who till then remained a mute spectator informed the local police.
later Zubeda’s family members named Raees Ahmed, and three of his henchmen in the First Information Report (FIR) claiming that it was the victim’s husband who orchestrated the sensational killing just to get rid of his wife. A case has been registered and the body was sent for post-mortem examination.
