Body recovered
The body of an unidentified 60-year-old woman was recovered from Indira Canal in Chinhat fuelling the speculation about the murder of the victim on Thursday. Police denied reports of foul play saying the family of the woman had thrown the body. The police said the body was more than 10 days old.
As per reports, Gossainganj resident Raju spotted the body which was stuck with the regulator in the canal and alerted the police.
The police reached the place and later identification process followed. However, the villagers failed to ascertain the identity of the woman.
The police said the woman probably belonged to some neighbouring district like Barabanki. “The body was in a highly decomposed state and so injuries/wounds prima facie could not be detected,” the police spokesman said.
Defrauded
A Brindavan Yojna Colony resident was duped of Rs 7.5 lakh by a fraudster who had promised him a job in a state government department. Karuna Shanker Tripathi alleged that he was promised the job by Satish Chandra Rawat of Mohanlalganj locality in 2015.
He said that he believed in Rawat as he claimed to be a close aide of a local leader and gave the cash in two installments.
However, Tripathi did not get the job and he asked Rawat to return the cash. Tripathi alleged that Rawat gave him a cheque which was dishonoured in the bank.
