A case of custodial death was reported in Hazratpur police station in Dataganj area of Badaun district of UP on Sunday. A magisterial probe has been ordered to probe the death.
According to reports, a youth, identified as Pravesh Kumar, of Bhagaur Gausganj under Hazratpur police station was wanted in a case of disappearance of a girl of his village after his brother Munna eloped with the girl. He was charged on the count of inducing or compelling the girl to marry his brother.
The Hazratpur police station cops rounded up him on Saturday and put him behind the police lock-up. On Sunday morning, Pravesh was found hanging from the ceiling of the lock-up room under mysterious circumstances. The incident came into light around 4 am when some constables woke up and happened to pass near the lock-up.
The police claimed that Pravesh committed suicide as he feared police action in the case. The police said the body was sent to post-mortem house and further investigations are on. The cops further said station officer Harcharan Singh and head moharrir Mahendra Singh had been suspended in this connection.
Sources, however, disclosed that there were several injuries on the body of the youth and it seemed he suffered the injuries due to police torture during interrogation. Doubting the police claim they opined that Pravesh would have died of the injuries he suffered at the hand of police. It may be mentioned that Parvesh was detained by the police two days back after the police failed to trace his brother Munna who was accused of eloping with the girl.
Meanwhile, an Inspector posted in Government Railway Police, Moradabad, Vijay Kant Sharma was found dead in a room at GRP, lines Moradabad club on Sunday morning.
Sharma was a native of Hapur and was incharge of CIA office at Moradabad GRP station. The incident came to light when he did not woke up on Sunday morning and his colleagues went to the room to inquire of him. When Sharma did not open the doors, the police teams displaced the cooler installed at the window of the room. The cops found him lying dead. and informed the senior officials.
Senior police officials reached the scene for investigation. The police claimed that Sharma was suffering with some disease and believed that Sharma would have died of his illness.
