A young journalist was killed by some armed miscreants in Northeastern State of Tripura on Wednesday.
The journalist, identified as Shantanu Bhowmik, had been working for a television news channel, ‘Din Rat’. On Wednesday he had gone to a remote location to cover a road blockade called by the Indigenous Peoples’ Front of Tripura (IPFT).
“Bhowmik had gone to Mandwai, about 30 km away from Agartala, to cover the road blockade called by IPFT. He was attacked with sharp weapons and hacked to death. Tension is prevailing in the area,” police said adding that they have registered a case and started the investigation.
It may be mentioned here that the left ruled northeastern state is going to polls next year and has been witnessing severe flare up and clashes among parties in the last couple of months.
The IPFT is an organization of indigenous people of the state, which has been fighting for creation of a separate State, carved out by upgrading the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) area.
