Advocating transparency in the Government working, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on inaugurated e-office under which 22 departments including Chief Minister’s office and Chief Secretary’s office have been digitally linked.

“This is the first step in bringing transparency in Government working. The officers will become more accountable and people will be able to know progress of their file,” Yogi said while inaugurating e-office service on Friday.

He said that under this system, not only data will remain protected but the system will also help in compilation of facts. This will directly benefit the people who will be able to witness movement of their file by a click of the mouse sitting at their houses, CM said.

To start, 22 of 94 departments have been digitally connected. Yogi said all departments should be connected with e-office by December 31 and all district headquarters should be connected digitally by March 31, 2018. The working of the system is quite simple. When the complaint is lodged the colour of the page would be yellow but once officer puts his digital signature it will turn green signifying that the complaint has been redressed. “This system is also environment friendly as it will save paper. It is believed that in two years, the number of document double and it is a fact that to make 12,500 papers, a tree is sacrificed. Thus, in directly we will be protecting our trees too,” CM said.

The e-office software has been designed by NIC under national e-governance plan. This is already operational in Central Government as well as in some States. The Government has earmarked Rs 57 crore for this scheme for initial phase.

CM also advocated implementation of citizen charter system under which officers are bound to clear a file within a stipulated time frame. “The officers who will deal with it have already been trained. Initially, there could be some teething problem once it is implemented slowly they will get used to it,” he said and added that officers have also been asked to digitalise the old files so that the working is systematic. In the first phase, e-office facility will be implemented in 22 departments including environment, mining, information, Rural engineering services, IT and Electronics, Culture, Election, Fisheries, Sports, Khadi and Gramodyog.

The  Chief Minister’s office and Chief Secretary’s office are also connected digitally.

CM kicked off the project by digitally sending a letter to his cabinet colleague asking them to adopt this system
