Aiming to speed up forensic testing for criminal investigation, the Yogi Government has decided to set up 18 forensic labs across the State.
Eight of them would come up immediately while the rest would be setup in a phased manner. A decision to this effect was taken at a cabinet meeting held in lucknow on Tuesday.
A Government spokesman said that the cabinet approved in principle to set up 18 forensic labs and eight of them would come up in Ghaziabad, Kannauj, Gorakhpur, Allahabad, Faizabad, Bareilly, Saharanpur and Aligarh in the initial phase.
Presently, there are four forensic labs in lucknow, Agra, Moradabad and Varanasi. “After setting up of thse labs, forensic tests in criminal cases will be speeded up,” the spokesman said.
