Yogi Govt behind Saharanpur attacks: Cong

The Congress on Wednesday alleged that attacks on Dalits in Saharanpur have been engineered by the Yogi Aditya Nath Government in

Uttar Pradesh. It demanded that all the accused should be arrested immediately and the State Government set-up a Special Court as envisioned under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act 1989 as amended in 2015.

“All these incidents are happening because of one single reason — the reason being — certain section of the

society in UP believe that after Yogi Adityanath becoming CM, they have got licence to indulge in hooliganism, they have got licence to oppress Dalits, commit atrocities and they are confident that law

will not be initiated against them because they think that the Chief Minister will provide protection. This is a very sad state of affairs and it is not good for law and order in UP,” Congress SC Department Chairman K Raju said.

Raju said series of attacks on Dalits are happening in Saharanpur in this mobs also burnt down nearly 30 houses causing serious injuries to many Dalits.

Senior party leader and spokesman Bhakta Charan Das said that though hundreds of upper caste youths have committed such an atrocious acts on Dalits in Saharanpur the administration has arrested only 32 so far.

“Special court has to deliver the judgment within 120 days,” said Das and Raju at a joint Press conference.
