As the world embraces yoga as a path to fitness and mental well-being, a new innovation is poised to address a growing concern, incorrect postures leading to pain and injuries.
As a recent survey highlighted that nearly 36 percent of yoga practitioners face discomfort due to improper alignment during their sessions, a timely solution has stepped in as PosePerfect, an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered yoga pose correction system that has been developed by a passionate team of young innovators. Born out of the XR (Extended Reality) Creator Hackathon, PosePerfect uses a blend of Extended Reality (XR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and 3D Visualisation to offer real-time feedback and guided corrections during yoga practice.
With the help of PoseNet and animated 3D avatars created using Blender, the system tracks the practitioner’s movements and suggests corrections on-screen, making yoga practice not just safer, but smarter. The aim is to help users of all skill levels improve posture, avoid injuries, and achieve better results.
The team behind this innovation, Shama Kiran (Team Lead), along with Deepti Karani, Diya Thalanki, and Kriti Bhardwaj, believes that technology can play a vital role in enhancing traditional wellness practices. Their goal is to make yoga more accessible and effective, especially for those practicing without a trained instructor. The XR Creator Hackathon, a national platform that celebrates the power of immersive technology, is an initiative by Wavelaps in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting under the WAVES program. It has provided teams like PosePerfect with mentorship, technical guidance, and access to cutting-edge tools, thanks to strong support from India’s leading XR communities, BharatXR and XDG.
Now, all eyes are on the Grand Finale, scheduled from May 1 to 4, 2025, at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai, where PosePerfect will showcase its prototype alongside other top XR innovations from across the country.
World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit, known by the acronym WAVES will be a key forum for promoting discussions, collaboration, and innovation in the media and entertainment industry. The event will bring together industry leaders, stakeholders, and innovators to discuss prospects, challenges, promote trade to India, and influence the sector’s future. According to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, WAVES is a groundbreaking event designed to propel India’s media, entertainment industry to even greater heights. “India is a major consumer and creator within the global entertainment landscape.

As India carves a space for itself in the global XR landscape, PosePerfect stands out as an inspiring example of how technology can elevate age-old practices. On a query as what impact shall the project bring to society, in India, and the world, Shama Kiran said the project aims to bridge the gap between traditional wellness practices and modern technology.
