Published on:

lingayat strongman BS Yeddyurappa, who took over as State BJP chief, on Thursday said that his main aim is to make ‘Karnataka free from Congress’. Speaking at a function organised to celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar after assuming charge as BJP State president, he said that “Congress is a sinking ship. My main aim is to fulfil BJP National president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of making the country free from the Congress.”

He also said he would take everyone together in achieving his aim and asked the party workers to join him in his effort and work unitedly.

Yeddyurappa said that “by making me State unit president, the party has given responsibility of bringing back the BJP Government in the State. In the 2018 election, the party should win at least 150 seats and remove this non-performing Siddaramaiah Government.”

He also said, “Though still there is two years for next Assembly election, we should start working from today itself.  Achievements of Modi Government should be conveyed to each and every house public awareness should be created about failures of Siddaramaiah Government which has failed to meet the aspirations of the people.”

He said that he had followed the principles of Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar and during his tour of the State he makes it a point to visit Mohallas of Dalits and listen to the hardhsip they faced.

Yeddyurappa alleged that the Congress party which ruled for more than six decades has failed to remove untouchability in the country.

“Nehru, when he was Prime Minister, did not allow performance of last rites of Ambedkar in New Delhi. Does Congress has moral right to speak about Dr AmbedkarIJ.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertiliser HN Ananth Kumar said that United Nations is celebrating the birth anniversary of Ambedkar today.

He said that Modi has launched various programmes on Thursday to bring coordination in the society. Modi was the first Prime Minister to say that for the Country Constitution is the ‘Dharma Grantha’.

BJP National General Secretary B Muralidhar Rao, incharge of party affairs in Karnataka, said that the credit of BJP coming to power for the first time in the South goes to Yeddyurappa.

“Yeddyurappa will wage war against ruling Congress government in the State in the coming days and see that BJP comes to power in the next election,” he added.

later in the evening Yeddyurappa addressed a massive rally along with other BJP leaders as part of his taking over as State BJP chief. Yeddyurapapa who started as a RSS pracharak build the party  from scratches in Karnataka. This appointment for him is politically significant and there is some sort of uncomfort in the ruling Congress in the state. Siddaramaiah who is facing a rebellion within and outside the party has come under fire for his many decisions which has gone awry. His recent decision to create an Anti Corruption Bureau outside the lokayukta which is expected to weaken the anti corruption body has come under severe criticisim within the congress and by the opposition parties. The Hublot wrist watch episode along with his pathologist son partnered company getting tender to setup labs in Government hospitals has dented his  image. Yeddyurappa’s appointment as state BJP chief has sent some shock waves and expected to gearup for the 2018 general elections.
