On the eve of World Environment Day, Delhi Government Ministers Kapil Mishra and Ashish Sood, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, MP Kamaljit Sehrawat, MLA Rajkumar Bhatia, senior leaders, environmentalists, social activists, and students all gathered at Kamani Auditorium for “Yamunotsav”, an event organised by “Yamuna Sansad” for the cause of reviving the Yamuna River.
The event focused on the river’s deteriorating condition, the rising levels of pollution, and the need to rejuvenate its banks. Culture Minister Kapil Mishra underscored the Yamuna’s spiritual and cultural value, calling its banks “a land of faith and tradition” that demands respect and preservation. Home Minister Ashish Sood stressed the need to instill environmental values in future generations through educational initiatives, from schools to universities.
Environmentalists and civil society members echoed similar concerns, calling for public engagement and sustained action. A soulful santur performance by maestro Pandit Abhay Rustam Sopori added a reflective tone to the evening.
Calling the event a growing social movement, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said that “Yamunotsav” had evolved into a citizen-driven campaign that transcends politics. MLA Rajkumar Bhatia appealed to society to rise collectively to restore the river, while MP Kamaljit Sehrawat spoke of active parliamentary efforts and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal oversight of the clean-up drive.
The event concluded with a shared commitment among political leaders, environmentalists, and citizens to work together toward restoring the Yamuna — not just as a waterway, but as a sacred and vital lifeline of Delhi.
