A two-day orientation programme for BJP’s first-time MPs — both in lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha — will begin on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister and BJP president Rajnath Singh will inaugurate ‘the workshop’ for the MPs at a hotel in Surajkund, in Haryana, on Saturday. The BJP has 161 first-time MPs in lok Sabha and 18 in Rajya Sabha.
The workshop will teach party MPs parliamentary rules and procedures, etiquette and way of raising issues relating to their constituencies and other current issues in Parliament. The MPs may be given ‘a list’ of do’s and don’ts as the law makers.
Union urban development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu would speak to the MPs on the first day. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj would also attend the workshop. The training session for the second-day would be addressed by party veteran lK Advani, according to Media cell Chief Srikant Sharma.
The MPs will also be oriented to use the social media to communicate and receive feed-back on a regular basis, said a BJP leader. Modi has placed high priority to the use of social media as a modern means of interaction with the people.
Senior leaders are expected to give their presentation to raise the level of awareness of the first-time law makers. “They may be given a brief history of rise and growth of the BJP, Bharatiya Jan Sangh and other organisations including the RSS,” sources said.
