Woman's torso found on Mumbai seashore

Mystery shrouds the murder of a middle-aged woman, whose torso was found in a plastic cement bag on a waterfront near the iconic Bandra-Worli sea link in south-central Mumbai on Sunday night.

After the local residents frequenting the sea front on the Bandra Reclamation area complained about the nauseating smell emanating from the surrounding environs, the police searched the area on Sunday night and found a bag stuffed with a female body without head and upper limbs.

The body that the police recovered around 9.30 pm from the periphery of the water front near the Bandra-Worli sea link, was in a badly mutilated state with miscreants having chopped off the “above-the-waist” portion of the body, stuffed torso inside a plastic bag and dumped near sea link.

The police infer that having murdered the woman at least two days before, the miscreants might have dumped bag containing a large portion of the highly mutilated body. “We have recovered blue

coloured dress and a bed sheet on the body. She is fair in complexion. We estimate that she was aged anywhere between 25 and 30 years,” a senior police officer said.

Till Monday evening, the police had not identified the body. The police have a strong reason to believe that she comes from a rich family and she had undergone abortion in the recent past. They have sent the body to a nearby hospital for a post-mortem. “If the assailants have the cut body into the body into pieces and thrown them at different places, it is because that they wanted the body to go unidentified,” the officer said.

The police are examining CCTV footage recovered from the Bandra-Worli sea link and nearby buildings to ascertain as to who might have dumped the bag containing the torso on the sea shore.

Simultaneously, the investigators have flashed messages to all police stations across the metropolis to ascertain if any missing woman complaints have been filed there in the last few days.
