In a heart searing incident a tribal woman threw her three children into a canal and tried to end her life by jumping into it. While the local people saved the woman, three children drowned in the canal, police said.
The incident occurred in Haliya village of Nalgonda district on Friday morning.
According to the police Angothu Swathi took her three children to the left bank canal of Nagarjunsagar near her village and there she threw children into it before jumping after them.
Police officials say the family discord appears to be the reason for her extreme step. While the bodies of the two girls Satgwika and Mithuna were recovered from the canal the body of the boy Bhagwath Kumar was yet to be traced. Swathi who was rescued was admitted to a hospital where he condition was stated to be serious.
Her husband Angothu Mohan, a constable in the local police station was in a deep shock and was not able to say anything when questioned by the senior officials about the reasons for the tragedy. But the frequent fights between husband and the wife are believed to be the reason for the incident.
Apparently the woman took the decision to kill her children and end her own life in a huff as her two daughters were in school uniform.
