A woman was shot dead by unknown assailants at Noorpora village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday evening.
Sources said that unknown gunmen barged into the house of Ajaz Ahmad Dar and shot dead his widowed mother Hameeda Banoo.
Banoo was alone in the house when the attack took place. She died instantly.
It was not immediately known as to who killed the 45-year-old lady.
Police cordoned off the area after the attack but no arrests were made.
The village is three kilometers from the police district headquarters of Awantipora. It is adjacent to Tral sub-district where several Hizbul Mujahideen militants are reported to be active. The security forces shot dead three militants in a recent encounter in the area.
