In a development that sent shock waves through Information Technology campuses across the country, a 25-year-old married woman was allegedly raped by two housekeeping staff members in a washroom on the campus of IT major Infosys in Pune.

Disturbingly enough, one of the perpetrators filmed the incident, while the other allegedly indulged in sexual assault on the victim woman, who is a cashier in a private canteen run on the sprawling Infosys campus, located in the Hinjewadi IT Park in Pune. They used the video clip of the incident unsuccessfully threaten the victim woman against approaching the police.

The incident, which took place on Sunday, came to light on Tuesday when the victim lodged a complaint with Hinjewadi police station in Pune.

Acting on her complaint, the Hinjewadi police swiftly arrested two Paritosh Baug (21) and Prakash Kisan Mahadik (30), who worked as housekeeping employees in the private canteen, where the incident took place.

“A woman who works with a private canteen on the Infosys campus approached us with a complaint alleging that she was raped. She told us that on Sunday, when she went to the washroom to freshen up, she was raped by the two. We have registered a case and arrested two persons identified by the victim,” Inspector Vishwajeet Khule of Hinjewadi police station said.

The victim also told the police that the accused had threatened her that if she spoke of the incident to anyone including the police, they would defame her by uploading the video clip of the incident on social media.

However, unfazed by the threats, victim woman went to the Hinjewadi police station herself and lodged a complaint against the two housekeeping staff members of the canteen where she worked.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued on Tuesday, Infosys said: “With regard to the alleged incident at our Pune campus involving our partners’ contractual staff, we are investigating the matter and are working closely with the police to aid their investigation”. “We have stringent measures in place on all our campuses and have zero tolerance policy against sexual harassment, which extends to the contractual staff as well. The company will take necessary action, the Infosys statement added.
