Two persons, including a married woman, allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves from ceiling fans in two separate incidents in Greater Noida and Noida on Tuesday night.
No suicide notes have been found from both the spots. Police said that the first incident took place in the Army Welfare Housing Organisation (AHWO) society in Greater Noida when a 30-year-old woman was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her flat.
The victim, Jyoti, a resident of Modinagar, was living with her in-laws in the house when she committed suicide. According to the police, Jyoti married Deepak Kumar four years back, Deepak is a photographer working with a Delhi-based company.
“We have registered a case under the appropriate Sections of law at Kasna police station and have sent the body for postmortem examination. We are also questioning her in-laws as they were present in the house during the incident,” said a senior police official. Meanwhile, the deceased’s family members have blamed that Jyoti was being tortured by her husband and his other family members for dowry.
“Her in-laws were torturing her daily and since last two years they were threatening to kill her as she was unwilling to convey their demand before us,” said a family member.
In another incident, Shekhar Kumar (22) committed suicide by hanging himself in Noida. Police said that Shekhar, a permanent resident of Almora district and presently living in a rented accommodation in Sector 63, was running depressed since long.
On Wednesday morning, his landlord informed police that Shekhar had locked himself in the room. When police broke the gate, he was found hanging from the ceiling fan.
“Shekhar was working with a private company in Sector-63 Noida and was in depression from last few months. His elder brother, who was also living with him, said that he was on fast from two days and had never discussed anything which possibly led him to commit suicide,” said a senior officer.
