A woman, who was allegedly selling her four-month-old son for `70,000, was arrested by the police on Thursday.
The accused has been identified as Doiwala, a resident Sunita Singh. Police have also arrested Agra resident Anita Mishra, who was allegedly purchasing the child, from the Dehradun railway station. This incident has put a question mark over the Congress-led UPA Government’s claim that 14 crore people were upgraded from BPl to APl category between 2004-14, because a woman here was driven by desperation into selling her own child for the sake of money. Kotwali Circle officer Pramod Kumar said police have also arrested two other accused — Sunita Singh’s sister and home guard (Uttarakhand) Anita Singh and Jagdish Mishra, husband of accused Anita Mishra.
