A 28-year-old woman, identified as Manju Singh Rawat, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her bedroom under mysterious circumstances on Friday in Shalimar Garden, Ghaziabad. On being questioned, the mother-in-law of the woman said Manju was short-tempered and committed suicide in a fit of rage over a small family issue.

Manju got married barely three months ago. According to her elder sister Deepa Singh, Manju was regularly tortured by her husband’s family members and they provoked her to commit suicide. She alleged, “Manju’s in-laws used to torture her regularly. Her mother-in-law Basanti Devi was cruel to her. She used to taunt her on small incident. Her mother-in-law and sister-in-law had been instrumental in instigating her to take such extreme step.” The body has been sent for autopsy. It is premature to comment on the issue as probe has been initiated. We will apprise the media once the results are out,” said Circle Officer Atul Yadav.
