A 24-year-old married woman allegedly committed suicide at her house in South Delhi’s, Fatehpur Beri area on Tuesday evening. Police said that the deceased has been identified as Poonam, niece of the Chairman of the South Zone Municipal Corporation Department, Kartar Singh Tanwar.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening around 5.30 pm when the victim was found hanging with the iron rod inside the bathroom of her bedroom. “A call to the police control room was made around 5.30 pm. The police team reached the spot and rushed Poonam to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival,” a senior police officer said.
Initial investigation revealed that Poonam was married to lokesh in February 2012. An SDM level inquiry has been ordered into the matter. The officers at the Fatehpur Beri police station are questioning Poonam’s husband and other in-laws in connection with the incident. A case of dowry death under Section 304-B was registered at Fatehpur Beri police station of South Delhi.
