The police claimed to have solved the murder of a woman who had been found dead in a pool of blood in Chandra Shekhar Azad Park near a ‘mazar’ five months ago. The mobile phone of Iram was also recovered from the possession of the arrested accused Abhishek Goswami alias Golu of Uthagi Kaurihar under the Nawabganj police station.
On May 13 this year Iram Hamid Siddiqui, wife of Saiyad Shahan Asad of Malviya Nagar dropped her son at St Joseph's School. Because the school was to run for only a few hours that day, Iram decided to spend time at Chandra Shekhar Azad Park and walked towards a ‘mazar’ situated there. She was talking to some one when a drug adict Abhishek Goswami came and snatched her phone. When she resisted Goswami hit her on the head with a big stone. Bleeding profusely, Iram fainted and fell on the ground and ultimately breathed her last.
When no body reached there to collect the boy from the school its management called the student’s father. He was surprised to know that his wife did not reach the school. When he dialled her number, he found it switched off. He first collected his son from the school and then launhed a search for Iram with the help of the police. Iram was later found dead in a pool of blood near the mazar in the Chandra Shekhar Azad Park.
The CCTV footage of all the cameras of the park and nearby places was scanned minutely, but the killer could not be spotted. The phone of Iram remained switched off for months together, but suddenly one day it started functioning. The police traced the person with the help of the sim card used by him in this mobile. When he was nabbed in Bihar, he told the police that Goswami had given him the phone and was demanding Rs 1400 for it, but he wanted to buy it for Rs 1,000 so Goswami took back the phone.
The police launched a manhunt for Abhishek Goswami who lived in the slum area near Bharadwaj Ashram here. The police arrested him on Tuesday and sent him to jail after recovering phone from his possession.
According to the police Goswami confessed that he had killed the woman for phone. He just wanted to grab the phone, but when she resisted he hit her hard on her head with a stone. He knew that CCTV cameras were installed at the park gates so he chose to walk within the park and reach the broken boundary on Pannalal Road from where he disappeared.
