Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday addressed a Press conference on counter terrorism on Wednesday. Singh addressed various aspects of terrorism also touching upon the new forms of terrorism, including cyber terrorism. Singh also reiterated the Government’s commitment towards fighting terrorism on Pakistani soil, saying that India will stand by its neighbour, if the latter is ready to take decisive steps in weeding terrorism.

“Most of the terrorist attacks in India emanate from Pakistan and it will have to show some sincerity and take concrete steps to rein in the various terror groups operating against India from its soil”, Singh said at the conference, adding, “India will stand by Pakistan if it takes decisive action against terrorists and their organisations.” Singh said that Pakistan’s efforts towards ending terrorism and terrorist organisations in the country are vital to restoring peace and stability in the South Asian region and also key to improving bilateral relations with India.

Taking a progressive stance on terrorism as a concept and its roots, the Home Minister said that he firmly believed that terrorism does not have any religion and it’s an attack on humanity as a whole. “I firmly believe that terrorism is a by-product of a perverse mind. This perversion has no love for human beings or humanity. Terrorism has no religion because religions do not allow crimes against humanity. Terrorism is a crime against humanity”, said Singh.

Reassuring people about India’s capability in fighting the threat of terrorism, Singh said that India’s security agencies are trying their best to identify and detain people with links to terrorists. Giving the example of the recent Pathankot attack, Singh said, “Our security forces and intelligence agencies not only prevented any damage to our capabilities and assets but achieved it with minimum casualties.”  He also touched upon the complications of fighting with terrorism in the current scenario, saying, “From traditional forms of terrorism, we are now witnessing cyber terrorism, narco terrorism and bio-terrorism. We are a country with multilingual, multi-religious&multi-ethnic society. These conditions are actively utilized by anti-national elements.”
