Mamata Banerjee has offered to solve the Kashmir problem, provided she was called upon to do so, the Bengal Chief Minister said on Wednesday even as she underscored the highlights of Trinamool Congress’ election manifesto.
Credited with breaking the Darjeeling impasse swiftly and steadily and handling of the Maoist crisis in Jangalmahal areas of her State, Banerjee said, “I don’t believe that the Kashmir problem cannot be solved. Everything has a solution and Kashmir issue too can be solved. The only need is to reach out to the people of that State and talk to them with your heart,” adding she was ready for talks with the Kashmiris.
“If I am asked to take up the issue, I will gladly accept the task. For that, I will have to go to Kashmir. I will reside there for some period of time when I reach out to the women folk, mothers, sisters, housewives taking all into confidence,” the Chief Minister said, adding “Kashmir issue needs a bit of heart for it to be solved.”
Speaking about the Demonetisation issue, Banerjee vouched for an investigation into the “biggest scam.” She had always been vocal against Demonetisation which, she claimed was used as a money-making device for the BJP to win elections.
“We will probe into whether and how this demonetisation was used to make black money white and who benefited from this step” that made the whole country to suffer as the country’s economy suffered as never before and crores of people lost their jobs.
On Goods and Services Tax, the Chief Minister said if Opposition parties come to power, they would consider the reviewing of the GST so as to lessen its burden on the people.
